Conventional methods
- Keep the area clean. Use soap, water and a cloth to clean the bite often. Keep your hands clean too; scratching with dirty hands can cause infection.
- Use hydrocortisone. Apply it just a little bite. Hydrocortisone reduces the swelling in and around the bite. It will also help with the itching. Use as directed.
- Take an oral antihistamine. The most severe bites are usually aggravated by an allergy to fleas. The antihistamine will reduce these symptoms but may also cause drowsiness. Brands include oral antihistamine Benadryl and Chlortrimeton. The store brands also work. Take as directed.
- Call your doctor if the bite shows any signs of infection (severe swelling, pain, drainage, or fever) or if the itching is severe and you cannot bear. Most doctors prescribe antibiotics for infection or a steroid injection to relieve these symptoms.
Home Remedies
- Mix one part apple cider vinegar with two parts water. Pour the mixture into a spray bottle and use it to saturate flea bites. Do not use on open wounds, since vinegar pica.
- Boil a cup of water. Place lemon peel in water. And covering the wound soaked overnight. Pour the mixture into a spray bottle and saturate the wound. You can also dab the wound with a cloth soaked in the mixture.
- Make a paste with baking soda and water. Cover the bite with the pasta. It will relieve pain and some itching.
Tips and Warnings
- Among the application of a treatment and other wash the bite with soap and water to prevent infection. Do not use acids remedies like apple cider vinegar and water with lemon in a sting that has broken the skin.
- Follow instructions of antihistamines, cortisone and steroids to prevent damage from overuse and overdose.
- Consult a veterinarian if severe flea infestation and bites in pets. Go to the doctor if there is an infestation in humans.
